When click vinyl is the right choice
- You are installing it yourself: No glue, no drying time, no special tools. A 20 m² room is doable in one day for experienced DIYers.
- You are renting: The floor can be removed without leaving any residue and taken with you.
- The subfloor is not perfect: A floating floor is more forgiving of minor unevenness than full-surface gluing.
- It should be quiet: Many designs come with integrated acoustic underlay from the factory, so you don't need a separate underlay.
- It should be quick: After the last click, the floor is immediately walkable; there is nothing that needs to harden.
What you should look out for with click vinyl
The subfloor must be level, firm, and dry. You should level out unevenness exceeding 2 mm over 1 m with filler; otherwise, the click connection will work and the joints will open over time. A vapor barrier is usually placed underneath on screed.
The wear layer is important: 0.3 mm is sufficient for standard living spaces; for hallways, kitchens, or home offices with chair casters, we recommend 0.55 mm. And if your floor already has integrated insulation, do not use an additional underlay, as this makes the connection too soft.
Click or glue-down – what suits your project?
Our guide Click Vinyl or Glue-Down Vinyl compares both honestly. If your subfloor needs to be filled anyway, glue-down vinyl is often worth it. Or find your floor in 2 minutes with our buying guide.
Frequently asked questions about click vinyl
What is the difference between click vinyl and glue-down vinyl?
Click vinyl is installed as a floating floor; the planks snap together without glue. This is fast, DIY-friendly, and can be removed without leaving residue, making it ideal for rental apartments. Glue-down vinyl is adhered over the entire surface, has a lower profile, and is the classic choice for underfloor heating and large areas.
Can I install click vinyl myself?
Yes, that is the big advantage. You don't need glue, just a utility knife, spacers, and a bit of patience. A 20 m² room is doable in one day for experienced DIYers. The subfloor must be level, firm, and dry.
How much does good click vinyl cost per m²?
Depending on the brand and wear layer, our click vinyl costs between approximately €32 and €62 per m². A wear layer from 0.3 mm is sufficient for normal living spaces; we recommend 0.55 mm for hallways, kitchens, and intensive use.
Is click vinyl suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes, almost all our click vinyl floors are approved for warm-water underfloor heating. A low thermal resistance of the overall structure is important; you can find this information in the product data.
Do I need an underlay under click vinyl?
Only if the floor does not have integrated insulation. In that case, use a pressure-resistant underlay, not a soft one. On screed, a vapor barrier is additionally placed underneath. If your vinyl already has factory-integrated insulation, nothing else goes in between.
How long does click vinyl last?
Depending on the wear layer and usage, 15 to 25 years. The thickness of the wear layer and maintenance are decisive. Brand-name floors like COREtec offer up to 25 years of warranty for residential use.
