What does integrated underlayment mean?
With a vinyl floor with integrated underlayment, the insulation layer is firmly bonded to the underside of the plank rather than lying underneath as a loose mat. It cannot slip during installation and has been matched to the click system by the manufacturer. For many COREtec floors, this is a bonded cork underlay, while for most CHECK floors, it is an IXPE foam layer. The insulation dampens noise when walking, both in the room itself and in the floor below. How effectively this is done can be found in the technical data for the respective floor; for example, the Tarkett floors in this selection offer 19 dB of impact sound reduction.
Who is click vinyl with underlayment for?
- Rented apartment: The floor is installed as a floating floor without glue and can be removed when you move out. What you should watch out for can be found in our guide Click vinyl in rented apartments.
- Apartments and upper floors: Less walking noise for the neighbors below you. If there are requirements for impact sound in the house rules, declaration of partition, or rental agreement, check them against the floor's technical data beforehand.
- Living rooms, bedrooms, and children's rooms: Quieter room acoustics and a more pleasant walking sensation.
- Underfloor heating: Many of these floors are suitable for hot-water underfloor heating, but only with the manufacturer's approval. Every insulation layer slows down heat a little, so check the information in the product data. More on this in the guide Click vinyl for underfloor heating.
No extra underlay necessary
If your floor already has integrated insulation, no additional underlayment goes underneath. A second, soft layer makes the planks yield more when walked on. This puts stress on the click connection, causing joints to open or the connection to break. The manufacturer's specifications in the installation instructions are always the deciding factor. On mineral substrates such as screed, some manufacturers require a vapor barrier (PE film); this is not insulation and is only installed underneath according to manufacturer instructions.
What belongs under which vinyl floor is explained in the guide What must be placed under vinyl flooring?. Whether you need insulation at all is covered in the guide Impact sound insulation under vinyl flooring: when it is necessary.
Rigid core and wear layer: what to look for
More than 550 floors in this selection have a rigid core. It is dimensionally stable and retains its measurements even during temperature changes. You can find all floors with this core under Rigid Vinyl, and the entire click assortment, including those without insulation, under Click Vinyl. Regarding the wear layer, 0.3 mm is sufficient for bedrooms and living rooms; for hallways, kitchens, and home offices with chair casters, we recommend 0.55 mm. More than 400 floors here have a 0.55 mm wear layer.
Installing click vinyl with underlayment
Let the packages sit in the installation room for 24 to 48 hours at a room temperature of 18 to 24 °C beforehand. The substrate must be level, firm, and dry; the thin insulation layer does not compensate for unevenness. Maintain an edge gap of 5 to 10 mm from the wall; in large rooms and with underfloor heating, lean towards 8 to 10 mm; the manufacturer's installation instructions are decisive. For waste, 5 to 10% is usually sufficient. More on getting started in the guide Acclimatizing vinyl flooring.

Frequently asked questions about click vinyl with underlayment
Do I still need an underlay for click vinyl with integrated underlayment?
No. The insulation is already firmly connected to the plank. An additional underlayment makes the structure too soft and puts stress on the click connection. A vapor barrier is only placed under it on screed if the manufacturer requires it. The installation instructions are the authority.
Is vinyl flooring with underlayment suitable for rented apartments?
Yes. It is installed as a floating floor without glue and can be removed when moving out. The integrated insulation makes walking quieter, both in the room and for the apartment below.
How much quieter is click vinyl with underlayment?
That depends on the individual floor. You can find the value in the technical data; for the Tarkett floors in this selection, for example, it is 19 dB of impact sound reduction. Always compare floors based on these manufacturer specifications.
Can I install click vinyl with underlayment over underfloor heating?
Generally yes, for hot-water underfloor heating, but only if the manufacturer approves the floor for it. The approval is listed in the product data. With underfloor heating, maintain an edge gap of closer to 8 to 10 mm.
What does click vinyl with underlayment cost per m²?
With us, between around €22 and €83 per m². Four out of five floors cost between €30 and €62 per m². The price depends primarily on the brand, wear layer, and core.
How does integrated insulation differ from a separate insulation underlay?
The factory-bonded insulation cannot slip during installation and is perfectly matched to the specific plank. You also save an extra step. A loose underlay, on the other hand, must fit the click system precisely and be laid cleanly.
